Custom software development for companies in Ecuador and Latin America
Systems built around your operation, not the other way around.
Indicium S.A. builds custom enterprise software for companies in Ecuador, Peru, and soon Colombia: management systems, in-house ERPs, operational platforms, and business-critical systems. Custom software is justified when the process you are digitizing is the company's competitive advantage and not a standard process; when it is standard, we recommend buying an existing solution. Since 2017 we have delivered more than 107 projects under that criterion.

Custom software isn't the right answer for everything. If your company needs to invoice, keep the books, or run payroll, there are dozens of systems validated by thousands of companies: buying one is almost always the right call.
It's justified when the process you want to digitize is the reason your customers choose you. That process shouldn't live in a generic system, because you end up adapting your competitive advantage to the software instead of the other way around.
What this service includes
In-house management systems and ERPs
Platforms built around the company's real processes, with the modules the operation needs and without the ones it doesn't use. Designed to grow with the business.
Business-critical systems
Software the daily operation depends on: production control, traceability, field logistics. With architectures that prioritize availability and fault tolerance.
Field applications that work offline
Tools for teams working where connectivity isn't stable. They capture data locally and sync once signal returns, with no information lost.
Integrations with existing systems
Connections to ERPs, CRMs, electronic invoicing platforms, or banking systems already in production, through services with verifiable interface contracts.
Custom software vs. off-the-shelf solution
| Criterion | Off-the-shelf solution | Custom software |
|---|---|---|
| Standard process (invoicing, payroll) | Recommended | Over-engineering |
| Process that is your competitive advantage | Constrains the operation | Recommended |
| Fewer than 20 users | Recommended | Rarely justified |
| More than 100 users, or highly specific data | Builds daily friction | Recommended |
| More than 30% customization required | Similar cost, less flexibility | Recommended |
| No maintenance budget for 3 years | Recommended | High risk of failure |

How much does custom software development cost in Ecuador?▾
Cost varies with scope and complexity. Indicium S.A. fits the solution to each client's real budget, from small businesses to corporations, and delivers a free assessment with a proposed scope and concrete figures. Proposals are valid for 15 days, since pricing and schedule availability are subject to change.
When is it better to build custom software instead of buying a system?▾
When the process you are digitizing is the company's competitive advantage and not a standard process; when volume exceeds 100 users or the data is highly specific; and when customizing an off-the-shelf system would mean changing more than 30% of how it works. And if there's no budget to sustain the system for at least three years, the honest recommendation is not to build custom.
Who owns the code once the project is finished?▾
Once the agreed consideration has been paid in full, the economic exploitation rights to the source code are assigned to the client. Moral rights remain with Indicium and its developers, in accordance with Ecuador's Código Ingenios (Ecuador's intellectual property code). Pre-existing libraries and components retain their original ownership, with a usage license for the project.
What happens if the vendor disappears, or we want to switch?▾
It's a legitimate concern and we address it from the start: the code lives in the client's repository from day one, and the exit path is defined at the moment you come in. A vendor who avoids that conversation is exactly the vendor you should distrust.
