Resumen Ejecutivo

The Shriners Ecuador Foundation is a nonprofit organization operating under Ministerial Agreement No. 00042-2022, the Ecuadorian arm of Shriners International — a network with 153 years of history and 22 specialized hospitals across the United States, Mexico and Canada. Its mission is to handle every piece of logistics so that Ecuadorian children and teenagers aged 0 to 18 with orthopedic conditions, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and cleft palate can access world-class medical treatment at absolutely no cost to their families.

When the foundation contacted us, the context was immediately clear: a charity run by volunteers and funded entirely by its own fundraising — raffles, bingo nights, events — that needed a professional digital presence to reach more families in need, more donors and more people willing to join. There was no marketing budget. There was a real cause. The decision was easy.

El Desafío

A Real Cause with No Digital Budget

The foundation operated almost exclusively through social media and direct contact, with no channel of its own that did not depend on an algorithm. Families in remote areas had no easy way to find it on Google, understand which conditions it covers, see other children it had helped, or submit an application directly. Donors had no clear way to contribute. And those who wanted to join the fraternity had nowhere to start. Three different audiences, three unresolved journeys, and no budget to resolve them.

A Pro Bono Project

We built the entire site free of charge. Some projects are measured in financial return and some are measured in another kind of return. This was the second kind.

3

Distinct Audiences

The site handles three journeys at once: families looking for help, donors who want to contribute, and people who want to join the Shriners fraternity.

What This Project Stands For

Among all the projects we take on, this one holds a different place. It generated no revenue. It generated something harder to quantify and easier to understand: the certainty that technology, applied well, can be the difference between a family finding help and not finding it. Building this site was a reminder of why we do what we do. We are not a software company. We are a strategic ally. And sometimes the most important ally is the one who shows up when they are needed most, with no strings attached.

Why It Was Pro Bono

Some projects are measured in financial return and some are measured in another kind of return. This was the second kind. The Shriners Ecuador Foundation coordinates medical exams in Ecuador, handles passports and visas with the United States embassy, international travel, accommodation for the patient and a companion, and follow-up until the child turns 18. It is work of logistics, will and love, sustained by people who chose to serve. We believe technology should also be put at the service of those who need it most.
